Traffic Information

We are Challenge Galway which is a new sporting event that will be held this year on the weekend of the 24th to 26th June. With this event it will see athletes take to the waters of Oranmore, the Roads of Galway City, Galway County and Clare County. As a result of this it will be necessary to implement a road closure order on Saturday 25th and Sunday June 26th 2016. 

 

ROAD CLOSURES AND TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

 

To make the event as safe as possible for the athletes, spectators and residents it is necessary to close specific roads during certain periods of the event. These are as follows:

Section A:

From Galway Bay Golf Course Along the Rinville West Road and Rinville Park to its junction at Maree Road to its junction with N18 Oranmore.

Section B:

Times: 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Along the Glenbrack Road from its junction with N66 at Crowe Street to its junction with R460 at Church Street along the R460  to County Galway / County Clare Boundary.

Along L4507 from Galway County / Clare County Boundary  to its junction with L1014 Galway County / Clare County Boundary. 

Section D:

Times: 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Route: N67 From Clare County/ Galway County Boundary 

Along the  N67  from  its  junction  with  Clare County / Galway County Boundary

to  its  junction  with N18 at Kilcolgan.

Alternative Route: From Kinvarra L8587 to its junction at L4508. R347 from Kinvarra to N18 Gort.

Section E:

Times: 09:25 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Date: Sunday 26th June, 2016

Route: Westlink Roundabout to Galway City / Galway County Boundary

Carrowmonease  Road to  its  junction  with  R338  at  Oranmore  to  the Galway County / Galway County City boundary.

Alternative Route: A one way system will be in place using the R446, R921, R338, Carrowmonease  Road.

From Galway City / Galway County Boundary on  R338 to its junction  at Old Dublin Road R338. Bus Lane Only Along the R338 at its junction on Coast road to its Junction Renmore Road at Bons Secours.

Alternative Route: Closures apply to Bus lane only. Traffic lanes are open.

Times: 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Along R338 from its Junction at Renmore Road Bon Secours to its junction at R339 Huntsmans Inn.

Alternative Route: Traffic will be re routed along East lane of R338 from its junction at Renmore Road Bon Secours to its Junction at Huntsman Inn R339.

Section C:

Times: 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

R336 from its Junction on Merchants Road Victoria to its junction at Forthill Street to its junction at Bothar Na NDuganna to its junction Docks Road. Forthill Street from its junction at Merchants Road R336 to its junction at Queen Street. Along The Long Walk onto Merchants Road Lower on to its junction on Merchants Road R336 onto it junction New Docks Road. New Docks Street from its junction at R336 Dock Road to its Junction at Merchants Road R336. Along R336 from its junction at New Dock Street and Dock Street to its junction at Father Griffith Road R336 at Wolf Tone Bridge. Along Father Griffith Road R336 on Wolf Tone Bridge west bound lane only to its junction at Claddagh Quay. Along Claddagh Quay onto Gratton Road to its junction R336 Doctor Colonna Road. Claddagh and Grattan Road.

Alternative Route:

Eyre Square to Merchants Road:

From R339 at its Junction at Eyre Square to its junction Prospect Hill onto R863 to its junction R864 Newcastle road onto R864 to its junction at R337 Taylor hill Road onto R864 to its junction on Father Griffith Road R336.

Grattan Road and Claddagh Quay is open for Local access only.
